Providers of courses in Sefton, such as Schools, Colleges
and Work-Based Learning Providers, work together to give young
people between the ages of 14 and 19 a wider choice of
opportunities in years 10 & 11, and in years 12 & 13.
What courses are available in years 10 and 11?
Pupils have been able to study for GCSE subjects for many years.
As well, there is now a range of Diplomas that is growing each
year. One Diploma can be followed in the place of up to 7 GCSE
subjects.

What courses are available in years 12 and 13?
In addition to existing courses, all of the Diplomas are
available at Advanced Level. A further development is the increase
in Apprenticeships available. It is anticipated that by the year
2013, 40% of young people in Sefton will be studying A Levels, 40%
will be studying Diplomas and 20% following Apprenticeships.

Applying to courses
All learners in year 11 can now apply to any course in Sefton
using the CAP (Common Application Process). Schools distribute
usernames and passwords during year 10 and 11.
